I WAS A TEENAGE WEREBEAR is a musical and a spoof of Rebel Without a Cause, Grease, and The Twilight Saga from the Chillerama franchise. It is set in 1962 and is about a closeted kid who meets these other closeted kids, who when aroused turn into leather daddy werebears. The movie was written and directed by Tim Sullivan, who is a producer of the hit film Detroit Rock City, as well as having producer/writer credits for the movies 2001 Maniacs and Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror. Tim Sullivan was also the host of the second season of VH1′s Scream Queen reality television show series.   We are showing a very special I WAS A TEENAGE WEREEBAR: FULL LENGTH HAIRY & UNCUT VERSION!! This is 5 minutes longer and uncensored – this is NOT on the CHILLERAMA DVD and is NOT available ANYWHERE but at the Ro-Na Theater!!!

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW is an outrageous assemblage of the most stereotyped science fiction movies, Marvel comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello outings and rock ‘n’ roll of every vintage. Running through the story is the sexual confusion of two middle American “Ike Age” kids confronted by the complications of the decadent morality of the 70′s, represented in the person of the mad “doctor” Frank N Furter, a transvestite from the planet Transexual in the galaxy of Transylvania.

Tickets for the show will be $6.00. Full audience participation is encouraged and prop bags will be on sale for $2.00 at the theater. There will be a special live preshow hosted by Davey Boy feauring an “I Wannna Be A Beauty Queen” bikini/beach body contest with beach themed prizes. Restoration And Preservation Is What We Do Best

Ro-Na Theater Exterior

Click on the photo of the Ro-Na Theater exterior for a photo tour of the theater during the daytime

Above and beyond doing the fabulous shadow cast performances we do, DownHome Decadence is also committed to theater restoration and film preservation.  This being said, The Ro-Na Theater in Ironton, OH is a dream come true for our cast.  Not only can we remain engaged in film preservation by keeping alive the Rocky Horror Picture Show legacy for the local area, but we can also dig in and be hands-on with a theater restoration program.

The Ro-Na Theater has been closed as a regular movie house for around 30 years, but thanks to The Friends of Ironton, as well as a few local citizens like Richard Fisher, the Ro-Na is slowly coming back to life as one of the most unique performance spaces in the area.

DownHome Decadence is proud to be a partner in helping restore The Ro-Na Theater, not only by creating financially viable entertainment options for the Tri-State area, but also by digging in and doing physical work on the facility.  On Thursday, March 29, 2012, the cast of DownHome Decadence spent the day preparing the theater for our first Rocky Horror Picture Show screening and helping get the theater cleaned up and ready to go for the night’s fun.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to our first show at The Ro-Na Theater – not only for making it one amazing night to remember, but also for helping us take the first big step in bringing The Ro-Na Theater of Ironton, OH back to life.

Without our amazing audience, we could not do the amazing things we do.  Thank you!!!

We Want You As A New Recruit!

DownHome Decadence, the Tri-State’s Naughty Thespians, have been invited to return to the Ro-Na Theater in Ironton, OH to perform our unique brand of theater with the Rocky Horror Picture Show and we are seeking even more cast members!  We will also be expanding beyond just The Rocky Horror Picture Show in our shadow casting endeavors and will be needing help with that as well.

Have you ever thought it would be exciting to move from being an audience member to a cast member at a DownHome Decadence show? Have you ever been a part of the cast of DownHome Decadence and miss the excitement of being in the show and the rush from the roar of the crowd. Have you ever wondered how it is that we do what we do and you would like to be a part of making this all happen? If you can answer “YES” to any of these questions – or are just curious about how it is we pick the people who work with the show, keep reading!!!

First, we ask you to please take a moment to fill out our online cast application. It will only take you a few minutes and will give us a chance to know you…we deserve that afterall. I mean, you have been to our show and most likely seen us in our underwear already.

Second, a member of DownHome Decadence’s Board of Directors will give you a call after we have reviewed your application. They will set up a time and place for an initial interview between you and a couple of the members of the Board of Directors. At this meeting, we will go over our cast rules, show requirements, and get to know each other a bit. After the initial meeting we will talk endlessly about you behind your back and if we find you to be a good fit with the show, we will ask you to set up an audition.

DownHome Decadence does not have a primary system. If you are a stellar performer you do not have to wait behind those who do not contribute to the show. Remember talent is not the only factor that will decide these things. If you believe you can play a character better than what you seen on the stage then apply for the cast, meet with us, and blow us out of the water with your performance during the audition – you will end up on stage for our next show!

We hope you will apply to join cast and will JOIN US on stage or behind the scenes really soon!!!

We were fortunate enough to have two professional photographers on hand to capture the night’s mayhem and madness.  Thank you to Tom Worden Photography and Chase Henderson for capturing the events of the evening and for making DownHome Decadence look so good!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been viewed in movie theaters on at least a weekly basis since it debuted on the big screen on September 23, 1975, and was entered into the Library of Congress as part of the National Film Registry in 2005 as part of the National Film Preservation Act. Attending midnight screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a right of passage for people for over 35 years. The show will often have multiple generations of Rocky Horror Fans in the audience from the same family.

DownHome Decadence is an internationally recognized Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast, who successfully produced a “shadow cast” performance of the movie every week for nearly three years (08/04/2006 – 07/26/2009) at the now defunct Downtown Discount Cinema Theater in Huntington, WV. The cast was brought back by The Downtown Discount Cinema Theater to perform a quarterly “special event” series of shows in 2011. The Rocky Horror Picture Show with DownHome Decadence live shadow cast talents were a consistent sell out event for The Downtown Discount Cinema Theater.
The cast has also performed their special blend of Rocky Horror at ARTS Resources Of The Tri-State’s Renaissance Theater in Huntington, WV and at The Historic State Theater in Point Pleasant, WV as part of the International Mothman Festival in 2007. They also produced a nationally attended Rocky Horror Picture Show convention in Huntington, West Virginia called We Are… Rocky!

As a performing group, DownHome Decadence have expanded well beyond the world of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They have presented the world-debut shadow cast performance of Brian DePalma’s Phantom Of The Paradise, the West Virginia big screen debut of Repo! The Genetic Opera, as well as having shadow casted the Rocky Horror Picture Show follow-up, Shock Treatment twice.

Dream it in your living room…be it at The Ro-Na Theater!

Repo! The Genetic Opera

Check out a full photo gallery from the Repo! The Genetic Opera and Girls of DownHome Decadence preshow from August 2011

August 26, 2011 saw the return of the musical venture from the SAW team, Repo! The Genetic Opera, to The Downtown Discount Cinema Theater in Huntington, West Virginia.  This screening was the second time that DownHome Decadence, The Tri-State’s Naughty Thespians, had the chance to attack the gory story of family greed and legal repossession of body parts.

The preshow was a little more light fare, featuring “The Girls of DownHome Decadence” doing a mini-drag show before the main event of the evening.  Cast Members Toby, Josh, and Jared tucked and taped to make the preshow something to remember for a very long time.

Davey Boy was the emcee for the evening and surprised the audience with a small morsel of Meat Loaf before he turned over the stage to DownHome Decadence for the performance.
